How Music Can Make You A Better Person

Would you like to pop in a CD and have a better quality of life, and even self improvement? Below are instances where music can influence and impact an individuals' behavior.

Motivation Provider

Notice how your body rhythm keeps in step whenever you hear lively music. Knowing the emotional and physical effect of music, you can actually experiment and observe what music will be most appropriate in a given situation. When you find the music that energizes you, relaxes you, or makes you happy, keep it ready for when you need it.

Music Can Make You Smarter

The right kind of music can spur your brain to higher levels of imagination and ingenuity. Studies show that music trains the brain for higher forms of thinking. A study involving three year olds were made to determine the effect of music in their intellectual development. One group was not allowed to experience nor given music training. The other group was given piano and choral lessons.

Eight months later the musical three-year-olds were much better at solving puzzles. In the spatial intelligence tests, the second group was even more spectacular, scoring 80% higher than the first group. There's also anecdotal evidence that listening to music, especially from Mozart's era, can help you study and learn better.

This claim should be the subject of thorough study. In the meantime there's no reason not to do your own experimentation. It is interesting to note that Stephen King allegedly listens to rock music while doing his books, so that could mean that some people does work better with background music.

Music For Brainwave Entrainment

Do you know that music can induce your brain to relax and get sharper? A method of lulling yourself into a meditative state is listening to music rigged to entrain your brainwaves. Music is embedded with beats and pulses that entrain your brain waves to a specific frequency. Play the CD or whatever is the carrier in the appropriate device and the brain is suppose to react positively. Can this be considered as science? In a way, yes.

Brain wave frequencies vary with mental state. Daydreaming and light meditation take place in the "Alpha" range of frequencies, for example. So if you listen to music containing beats at a frequency of 10 Hz you will generate more brainwaves at a 10 Hz frequency and enter a relaxed Alpha mental state. Has this been proven?

Yes, it has been found that two products that put some in a calm state unlike any other is music or meditative practice. Studies will prove the effects (some have already), and disprove the wilder claims.

You cannot be faulted if you have reservations until more proof comes around to erase your doubts. Meanwhile, why not try classical music when you study, just to see if it helps? Surely there is no harm in the music of Mozart.
